    Stripped ride plate bolt

Hey people, I stripped one of my ride plate bolt holes on my 07 GPR, is there enough thickness in that insert to install a heli-coil? Otherwise I will replace it, but been there done that on my old 2000 GPR and it was no fun getting the factory glue out of there.

    Thanks guys

Here's a trick I use for removing inserts: Using a heat gun, get the green epoxy on & around the insert good & hot. It'll take some time, but you'll know when it's hot enough when it starts to change color. Then get under the ski, put a screwdriver in the bolt holes & wack it with a mallet. I've done lots of them like this & 9 out of 10 times I've been able to get the epoxy & insert out as one piece with nothing left behind in the hull besides the soft silicone sealant that's easily removed.

With the amount of pounding those hull parts take, I'd feel much safer replacing the insert than trying to use a helicoil.

Also, use a good resperator because the fumes are nasty!

I dont like to use heat

I get the bolts out and pry the insert out, then I take a air chiesl, lay the bit flat against the hulll and work at the edge of the glue... one it gets started coming up, I take a pry bar and pop the whole glob of glue out

Thanks for the replies! I'm gonna cruise over to "O'sideBill Depot" and see if he has any. Actually, I may have one in my old GPR parts pile that I forgot about, been out of the loop for about 3 years.

I replaced them in my XLT and GPR years ago, may have an extra. But, has anyone actually tried to heli-coil one? I think it will work if there is enough material. Gonna try it tonite, its no good the way it is now anyway.

P.S. I used a heat gun and air chiesl together before and that worked ok.

BTW they are too weak to helicoil, but I have that size kit if you want to try.
