where did the engines come from?

how did honda come up with the 1235/1470 engines? did they take em from a motorcycle line, or take it from a car line or make em from scratch? also are the 1235 and 1470 engines related? thanks for any help.

The 1200 engine came from the Honda Blackbird MC engine. The 1500 is more of a true PWC engine.

ok so honda just bored the blackbird engine out a little to achieve 1235 im gonna guess? and then the 1470 is just a tall deck version of the 1.2? feel free to laugh if this is ridiculously wrong

Yes on the 1200, except the forged internals on the turbos. The 1500 has a much more true PWC design to it except the cheesy valve springs.

what do you mean by true pwc design?

The 15X induction/exhaust systems are rocket science compared to the subairbox system and poorly designed exhaust on the Fxs.

Correct me if I am wrong but the engine itself (block) is the same as the 1200 it is just bored and stroked. The bolt on might be different but I think the engine is very close between the 1200 and 1500.

they are pretty much the same engine. (the r12x and the f15x) same pistons, different stroke and different intake system. the exhuast is the same. the old r12x intake system was out of motorcycle technology... the f15x intake system is more car technology. slightly bigger turbo (compressor wheel pitch I think). and they put the intercooler in between the turbo and intake system to get rid of turbo lag. better pump all around, set bac prop,2 inch thrust plate, seven vein pump, much better prop.

    F15 differences

How much difference in the stroke? The changes are welcome. Another 15x and I am done other than maybe two macboost kits.
