If this was your Ski, What would you do? Cosmetic Fixes.

Here is my 99 XLL. The pictures are of what I would call "Gouges" to the upper hull. I would like to repair these. What can I do without a total repaint? Fill with MarineTex, sand, wet sand, and touch up?

How about the hairline cracks on the nose?

    Thanks!!

I have a few nicks that are pretty similar to what Jayn has here. I haven't done any SMC repair before, is marine tex enough by itself? Would you need any gelcoat over the marine tex to seal the repair and how does the white marine tex match the factory yamaha white?

Well, marine tex is rather strong from what i have seen so far but you could always go the west systems route too. I have used both and for small little nicks i would use the tex since it isnt a giant hole to repair. The tex will not match the factory white sorry but it will be good enough to keep the ski looking clean and well taken care of... the only thing that will match the factory color is more factory color but at that age after 10+ years the factory color wont even match the factory color...

Thank you for the information. I will get the Marine Tex on order!

And get the motor pulled, and order a crank, and start a project thread!

I had some similar marks in my Honda when I bought it. I ordered a bottle of gelcoat from a company called Spectrum Color. You give them the make and the year of your ski and they have factory color match gelcoat. I am very happy with the job and how it has held up. Good Luck
