It's significance is to filter the air, hence it being an air filter.

That really is the only reason you would run an air filter on a turbo. You also don't want any debris geting in there and getting your turbo dirty or worst injesting anything and shooting it through your motor.

Some people run the and some don't. I would recommend it especially running it on a PWC.

And the type, it's up to you really. most reputable brand filters work pretty well.

Think about all of the things that could sucked into a 20000rpm turbo going into your induction: fiberglass particles, water, salt, solvent particulates, busted oil-fuel-coolant lines. i personally don't run anything without a filter, including my toys and toys at work. like Shark said, any brand name filter should do.

Yeah I was just messing with ya. But the answer to that question is no. You will not get any gains adding an air filter.

An air filter is actually going to restrict the airflow slightly but gives you peace of mind to not sucking anything up in there.

If you add a Fizzle 4" tube along with the air filter you could see some gains

I dont think the fizzle is going to flow better than no air filter. Just might give you some cooler air.
