    Cleaning Stainless Wear Rings

Here is a pic of what is used and is the easiest way to clean rust or burn marks from blade flex or whatever off of the rings. They are 120 grit, flexible sanding disks that you attach to your regular home drill and it gets rid of the marks with absolutely no damage to the ring. Just apply enough pressure on the marks until you see them disappear. The bigger ring is for the top portion and the smaller one is used to get under the prop spline. Or just use the smaller one and it takes a little longer. The bigger one is a 2" diameter and 1" wide while the smaller one is a 1 1/2" diameter and 1/2" wide.

i thout that stainless steel rings shouldnt rust?
and by doing this aren't you making the wear ring wear out (like a plastic wear ring) that the gap becomes too big between the prop and ring.
just trying to figure this out.

    Dave,

The trick is not to be overly aggresive when doing this. Doing a clean up on these rings is OK as long as you are careful and not putting a lot of pressure onto the ring as well as keeping the sanding wheel moving and not staying in one place. After I was finished, the ring looked like new.

    but do they realy rust?
even not agressive when doing this did you mesure the clearence between prop and ring?

either way, 320/220 grit wet/dry hardly removes any material.
steel wool and scotchbrite pads the same. Yes the stainless wear rings will rust along the prop edges where the water lyes the most during sitting periods or flushing. I`m not sure what grade of stainless they are made of, but they will rust slightly...
mostly I think we are concerened about the burn marks left from cavatation, which pretty much removes pretty easily...PR...
