Back to back test of Stock/Motec on lightly modded FZS.

I wanted to see what actually happens when you take a stock motor and just add a motec (using their standard start file with no adjustments). I can never say for sure until I do it myself.

Now this a bog stock ski!!! (FZS with 23hrs) but has the following mods:
    free flow air intake
    free flow exhaust
    ribbon removed
    vx rideplate
    scoop grate

With the OEM ECU it did 70.1mph
With the Motec it did 77.6mph

This is a back to back test within a ten minute period so the enviromental changes would have been minimal.

Yes, even I was a little surprised but there you go.

When we were running the OEM ECU it was hitting the rev limiter pretty hard but the owner of the ski said yesterday it sounded like it was just off the limiter. Therefore we assume the conditions today for testing was very good. About 20c in smooth water.

So from this we can say that by adding a motec (not a vipec) to your ski you'll go faster!

Thanks to the owner of the FZS for been the test rat.................(and no Kev, you have to buy your own damn motec).

If anyone would like the log file to look at, I'll post it up, but alas the logging GPS wasn't fitted for the runs. We used a seperate GPS.

    I hope this helps others,

    Dean

PS There is probably a bit more speed in that setup if:

*the prop was pitched back a little as the max revs was 8250 (rev limit was set at 8400 on the stock program).

*And there will be some speed if the rideplate was shimmed a little due to some bouncing at top speed.

*And if you added the lamba setup and was prepared to spend some time testing the A/F can be fiddled with to get the most power from the motor. Motec would have the start file a bit rich for safety.

*Trued the hull, pump assembly and all that underneath stuff.

PSS. Thanks Kev (FX160) for your help.

As in the first post, everything was bog stock except those things mentioned.

But I may be wrong as I have a terrible memory and I'm half deaf. lol.

Kev!! Was the prop and pump stock out of the box??

And to the vipec gang, this isn't a pissing match I've started between Motec/Vipec. I respect your gear (as much haltech and all the others) but I just run with motec over here in Oz.

Just saying that this is the feild results we found if you use an aftermarket ecu.

    Love to catch up Mike.

We tested down at the lovely Goodna boat ramp today.
For those who need to know it is located on the Brisbane approximately 50 kms from the mouth of the river in the tidal area in brackish water. It is about 25 feet above sea level. We were at ebb tide when testing.
