Does it help if you pull the choke?

your question regarding the water hose thing- 2 stroke motors generally use the water to cool the head and the exhaust. There is no valve in the motor to close the engine cylinder..2 strokes work off windows and the piston...if you turn the water on with the motor NOT RUNNING you risk the water backfilling into the piston OR under the piston and into the crank...which can lead to a hydro-locked motor or a water logged crank. The air/fuel/oil in a 2 stroke enters from the carb and goes into the crank before the downstroke of the piston forces it upwards and into the piston/cylinder. You may need to turn your water craft upside down, remove the plug, and crank the motor to clear out the crank. (if you have water in it)

the oil used in 2 stroke motors is for lubing the bearings on the crank, not for the piston...

Hmmm. 2-stroke oil is mixed in the gas to lubricate everything in the engine. The rings would seize to the cylinder wall if it doesnt get any lubrication. The bearings in the crank, the oil pump gear, rod bearings on the upper rod, piston pin, the piston rings, and pistons all need lubrication to survive the harsh envirement in there.

The oil actually forms a film in between the cylinder wall and the piston and between the rings and the cylinder wall and ride on a cushion of oil. if that wasnt there, you would seize almost instantly, it acts to transfer heat from the rings to the cylinder wall and help build compression too.

thats why you have cross hatches in the cylinder bore, not only to scratch the rings correctly for a tight seal, the rings actually push the oil in the cross hatches and that acts as a place for the oil to "hide" as the piston travels up n down. that film of oil there acts like the air on a air-hockey table. the puck never touches the table, it glides over it by that cushion of air..or in the case of an 2-stroke engine,, the oil does the same exact thing..

if you ever heard of anyone forgetting to add oil will tell you,, it ran great for the first 3 mins, then all of sudden i lost all power. it was chugging and stopped. whats wrong.. the engine seized!.lol opps!

no oil equals piston seizure!. it happens in mere micro seconds. if your timing is off real bad(way advanced) , it can actually vaporize the oil in the gas from the cylinder temps being so high and cause a seizure too. no oil on the walls, equals Ka-boomb!

What lubricates the piston and rings then?
