I have read a few things, like if the washer goes, it could end up in the engine. Would I know this from looking at the sc after I pull it out, or does it have to be opened up?
Or, as it just happened and I was about 1 minute away from my parking stall when I rode it back without much hp, would it/could it be just at the point where it's slipping rather than having internal damage?

I was riding back home on a smooth surface, wide open. It registered 80 mph (but in actuality was probably less I realize). Could it overheat?

Just currious of how bad/far gone it may be. Ski has 189 hrs and a different clamp on the sc indicates it was serviced before.

I think the previous owner did work to it as the oem clamp was replaced with a different one. So I figured that would have been done to it already. However, if these sc only last say 100 hrs. and I was at 189, then it may have been just the time?
Anyway, when the sc breaks down as mine just did, is it always drastic, thus requiring flushing engine, replacing oil pumps, or, can they just slip without loosng parts?

replacing the clamp doesnt mean anything, maybe it poped off or he took it off to check slip. Do not assume he rebuilt it.
like I said before the only way to find what happened is to pull it out. and take some pics

Quick check is to pull the hose off. Reach in with your finger and see if you can turn/spin the SC blade. If it moves freely, its blown. If it moves with a good deal of force, mabye just washers need replaceing due to wear. You shouldnt be able to move it w.o a wrench. I dont recall what the slip point is, but using a torque wrench will give that that number. Someone where will know.

Folks suggest rebuilding the SC at 100 hr intervals. Yours is at 189-- If you've got the time, pull it anyway and rebuild.

If it still has the ceramic washers you have more problems then just a blown charger
