Will a little synthetic mix with fossil

I want to change the oil in a 4-tec that I bought used. I have no idea what kind of oil is in the crank. I don't know if the two different oils will mix together if my 50% guess is wrong. My understanding from this forum is that I will never get all of the oil out so there will be some residue left in the motor. Any words of wisdom or experience will be greatly appreciated.

If your not 100% then use semi-synthetic oil. It can be used with either oil, but you are correct...you cannot mix full synthetic with conventional oil.
