Turbo guys: Anyone have experience with the Tial MVR44 Wastegate?

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to research on what wastegate to get for my turbo setup and was looking into the Tial MVR 44 which is watercooled and seems to be a good feature sinceit's for a ski.

Anyone have experience with this wastegate or recommend any?

Is a 44 too big, too small or perfect size?

    Thanks all.

+1 Les Cookes setup uses a 38mm, no need to go any bigger than that, Water cooled is a very good idea, the diaphrams dont last very long otherwise, they dont like the heat and due to the lack of air flow through the hull the wastegate gets very hot.

Im pretty sure that Tial make a 38mm watercooled gate, PM Louis914 on this forum, he has been working very closely with tial and was involved with the development of tials watercooled gate, im sure he would be happy to help and may even be able to sell you what you need.

He also has a very trick turbo that is perfectly matched to the 4Tec, this is also made by Tial

Ok I bought it yesterday before you guys posted so what now?

Is it way to big where it will not perform well or is just overkill but it will still get the job done.

Im sure it will still work, its just overkill and prob alot more expensive, is there no way you can swap it for a 38mm??

Im sure the company you got it from will have other parts that you will need along the way if they are not happy to re-fund the difference.

I am sure I can but if it doesn't hinder it's purpose I'll just go with it. I like to the term bigger is better!

I think it should work well and I shouldn't have any problems with it. we shall see how it goes.

Also, I was thinking about the water cooling. Instead of water cooling it I was thinking of running coolant through it since I ride alot of salt water and don't want salt water going through there. Any thoughts on this?

Yeah, I got a 30 plate heat exchanger, I ride way too much salt water to go open loop.

I thought most of the turbo guys are running open loop and alu manifolds due to the boost levels??

A 30 plate heat exchanger should do the same as open loop.

And as far as the manifold goes; Yes, you need to run an aluminum mani when ur going above 20 lbs. I'm still going to run my stock mani and won't go over 18 lbs. There is a shop making an alluminum intake manifold which I will be testing out for them once it's done.
