01 gp1200r picks up speed at half tank?

my ski has some mods like re jetted carbs for d-plate, flame arrestors, riva plate, r&d grate, jet works kit and a milled head for 92+ octane. i have noticed even when it was stock that once it would hit a half tank of gas the thing seemes to realy pick up better. much better throttle responce, top end seems about the same just seems more responsive. now i know that less fuel means less weight but there isn't any difference from full to 3/4 or even above 1/2. not sure if this is something others have found. thanks, paul c.

Hey Paul, its the less weight. Depending on the blend, 1 gallon gas is roughly 7.5-8 lbs per gallon.
15 gallon fuel in the GPR is roughly 120 lbs +/- . So.......you go from a full tank to 1/2, your dropping about 60 lbs (est). That makes a big difference.

i kind of thought so but it just seemed to come on quick, not gradual as the fuel is used. thanks.

my best speeds when I had my 1200 were always at 1/2 tank. This was the optimum balance point for the angle I had on my ride plate and body position riding. With my conversion, 1/2 tank is still the best weight, again, I run alot of ride plate angle for lift, the 1/2 tank of fuel is just the right ballast for keeping it stable for my setup. I can run down to 1-2 bars of fuel....but I have to shift my body weight a little more to the middle of the seat.

My 1200 single picks up about 1mph from full to half tank. Then about 1mph more on 2 bars or less. So full tank is 2mph slower than near empty.

Throw in about 4-8 inches of chop and you may pick up about 1mph.... these boats are sensitive to things like drag.
