XPDI maint light low rpm, rectifier??
2003 xpdi 110 hrs odyssey battery 3 yrs old.
ok so ski was showing maint light for a few minutes at beginning of a ride but then would stop.
i figured it was the 100 hr maint reminder, or low battery from sitting all week, ran 10 hrs this way.
then started to show maint light and flashing 12V low, rpms dropped to 4800
checked battery for charging voltage, 12.45 ski off, 12.3 ski running. not charging!
replaced rectifier, recharged battery, now 12.8 ski off, 13.2 ski running, now charging again!
so go for a ride, ski runs great full revs to 6850, running strong.
no maint light.
except at about 3800 rpm or 4000 rpm, the maint light comes on, ski still runs great, but light is flashing whole time over 4k rpm. if i drop back to lower rpm, maint light goes away, but as soon as i go over 4k it comes back on. no 12V low warning, no limp mode.
rectifier is really hot to the touch, but still charging 13.2.
i am going to drop off at dealer to pull codes, but what else can i do? what else can i check

oh and if i rev it up on the trailer to 5 or 6 k, the maint light does not come on, so no load on engine it doesnt set it off.

sounds like a faulty knock sensor, its on the head, pull out your multi meter and set it to measure ohms, unplug the sensor, i think its behind the injector block and put your tester across both terminals, you should get 5ohms, I think

yep i was looking up the faults, and knock sensor closely matches my symptoms...
except this weekend it started to act up worse, now it shows maint above 4000ish, then suddenly drops to 1500 rpm, wont accelerate at all, limp mode.
funny thing is at 1500 rpm, the maint light is gone!! just stuck in limp mode until i remove the lanyard and restart. as soon as i go full throttle, boom 1500 limp mode again.
dealer has it now i cant work on it during the week its at my shore house and i am 100 miles away
hopefully they have a clue.

so dealer cleared the codes,
went for a test ride, and everything is fine. no more "maint" or codes
they say come pick it up.
are there codes on a DI that will put it into limp mode, that have to be reset by the dealer, not just by pulling lanyard and restarting??
i have a feeling that when i go riding for an hour, its gonna show "maint" and go into limp mode again...
i guess if it does act up, there will be a new code to read??

Thats one reason I hate those skis. You can't work on them without a computer and half the sea-doo dealers don't have a tech that knows what they are doing with these. Then you got the super expensive parts cost so you can't really guess with a $1675 computer. Good luck and I hope you don't have any more problems with it.

so now dealer says he cleared the codes.
and he cant find anything wrong, but still intermittently goes into limp mode
somehow i doubt he has a clue what he is doing.
i am trying to get him to tell me what codes were in it before he erased them all, then what code he thinks is killing it now.
basically , now the ski runs, throws a maint light at about 4000rpm, but then as you rev it up higher, it goes into limp mode, drops to 1500rpm. funny thing is at 15oo rpm, maint light is off!! but engine wont rev up at all, limp mode.
if i pull the lanyard, and restart, it will rev up again, but if i go upwards of 55oo rpm, the limp mode kills it down to 1500 rpm again.
this guy does not know what he is doing. who is a DI specialist in NJ or PA????

Most of the info I found was on/from www.sea-doo.net . The guys that run that site are kinda jerks but they can be helpfull. I had to get a MPEM for mine and I got it from speedforsale on there he is a cool guy.

Very possible he is not pulling your chain. Now replacing the engine.... well the problem could be repaired.
CPS code being set due to front main bearing being worn excessive. Causes cup to wobble at higher rpm's and throw the cps pattern off. Can even cause the cup to contact sensor. Found a thread on Sea-Doo.net

i just called called derrick of jet set performance, he knows his stuff, like i have heard before he must be the PPG north office, a true 2 stroke magician, very few of them around anymore.
of course the local dealer cant diagnose anything on the DI, he is clueless!!!
derrick says 1 hr diagnosis and probably a bad sensor, worst case stator is going bad.
i'll update next week when we figure out what it is
