    gp 800r for surf??

Hey guys, i am looking to buy a 2nd ski for a surf/wave jumper. Question is what would a gp800r be like? Speed wise i want something that will be real snappy and responsive, will the 800 with a few mods do the trick or am i wasting time and money and should just buy a gp1200r? I just thought the 800 would be lighter, and are all the gpr's the same hull? Not to familiar with the yamaha's, thanks!!

The Hulls are the same. You answered your own Question on purchase...The 1200 with slight mods for your application would be best I.M.O. Plenty to chose from at this point!

If you are dead set on the 800 though, then talk with an impeller man that can hook you up with an impeller that gives you some real bottom end grunt. You may loose some top end, but hey you said you wanted a jumper.

It is not about engine size, it is about applying engine power to the water.

Yeah thanks guys. I saw a gp800r in good nic and pretty cheap so thats why i was thinking the 800. Also i thought the total ski weight of the 800 to the 1200 would be alot lighter.
I'm now more leaning towards the 1200. (more aftermarket parts). Apart from general looking and compression tests what else would be an issue on a ski with around 120hrs, carbs, crank, pump??

Yeah, remove them both. Neither will serve you well in a rough water/jumping environment.

In fact, they would be hiding in the tall grass just waiting for you to make the mistake of keeping them in place.
