    DESS post no beep

My 08 GTI SE 155 does nothing when I attach any of 3 keys most of the time. If I mess with it long enough it will give two beeps and we can go. Try it again and nada...very intermittent problem. Trouble shooting steps so far..

Cleaned post and all 3 keys.
I have checked all the fuses including the two 30 AMP mains.
I have gone through the DESS post diagnostic and it passed. I checked the results against my 08 GTX and they are similar.
Battery is fully charged and has solid connections.
GTX keys behave the same on the GTI until I can get 1 long beep indicating the wrong key.
Short of replacing the DESS post (expensive test), or taking it to a dealer I'm out of ideas.

I did have to replace the starter solenoid recently but this problem was occurring before that as well.

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chris

sure sounds like the post is doinked to me. simple test to see if the reed switch is hanging. Get quality ohmmeter, check for continuity when the key is on ( or a big honking magnet is nearby). Don't have a 2008 manual here, but it shoudln't take more then a few minutes to figure out what is what. If the switch closes reliably, start working your way to the expensive stuff.

Thanks for the info. I tried a big ass magnet and I immediately got a long beep like I had attached the wrong key....and guess what now I can't make it fail. WTF?!?!? We are going to try it at the lake tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks again.

"Never but never question the Captain's Judgement"

don't forget a paddle there matey

the switch is going out.. the bam may have helped dislodge some crap that was somehow in the switch, but beware...it's still bouncing around in there ready to ruin your afternoon.

if you disconnected the harness..may have been a bad connection.

    report back your results please

So if I have continuity between the black wire and the black/yellow wire with the key on, but still no beep what should I check next? Didn't get stuck on the water but it's still flaking out.
