2003 GTX di Stalled on water wont start

Recently purchased a 2003 GTX di. The ski has ran well most of the summer with a small miss in it when using the white governor key. The other day it stalled with the governor key and now wont start with either key.

    • Battery seems to have a full charge and turns motor over strong
    • Spark at cylinder is strong. Pulled wires and arched to mount.
I have not pulled plugs yet.
    • Seems fuel starved so I put in "sea foam" I think is the brand name fuel cleaner. It said it was safe for PWC, 2 stroke and 4 stroke.
    • Pulled fuel sending unit out of tank.
      • Float was light, did not seem like it was sunk.
      • Filter screen on bottom of baffle was clean. no grit.
      • Baffle was full of clean fuel.
      • Tank appears to be filled with clean fuel.
My next step is to pull the fuel line off the injection rail to make sure I am getting sufficient fuel to the cylinders.

Any suggestions or common problem spots I need to look first? Is the in line canister a water separator? Can it be flushed?

I have a 2002 GTX-DI and it's still running very well with no hitch.

There's a few things you need to keep in mind with DI models.

-The DI engines needs a good healthy battery to start it.
-DI engines likes to eat spark plugs due to high compression, replace them every year or whenever it won't do more than 50+ mph on smooth water.
-DI engines don't like to be starved of fuel...

In your case, it sounds like you burnt up the fuel pump and it quit working. Fuel Injections needs good pressure for the direct injection system to work.
The fuel pump uses fuel for cooling and doesn't like to be run dry.

If you have the tooling, see if you can check the fuel pressure. If not, replace the fuel pump for the start of troubleshooting.

While fuel pressure is a critical spec to check in hard to start no start conditions with no codes present. On DI's Air pressure is just as important. A DI uses both , just thought I would add that.

Thanks, I will take a look at the fuel pressure first.

How do I find codes on it? Will that be on the dash, or do I need a special diagnostic tool?

You need a special tool to check for fuel pressure. The system will not tell you if the pump is weak, it will just tell you weather the pump is working or not. Working with correct fuel pressure is where a guage comes into place.

its always the simple things! This morning I hit the start button and nothing had changed. I pulled the plugs and they were covered in oil. After spraying them down with parts cleaner and scuffed the points. As soon as I hit the starter button it fired right up.

If new plugs dont make it run like a champ I will update again. It seems sod how they both fouled out at the same time just killed the ski...

Thanks for all of your help!
