Thread: Pro 785's SUCK

    Pro 785's SUCK

Never thought I would ever say this in a MILLION years.......but all my Pro's are outdated and slow. Rode a stock Yamaha FZR today around some race buoys, and it kills. I think it is time to change. Race it Sat., take the kids tubing on Sun. I think this is the future. Big boat, but man do they feel small and handle well. It would out-turn, and out accelerate, my C.F. Hulled superstock 785.

I don't know if you can say they SUCK.....

After all, the newest one is 10 yrs old. And some guys are still winning races with them.

I managed to smoke a 2006 1200F on my 13 yr old PRO. That guy seemed to think it didn't suck.

I agree. You can't say they suck. Sure, mechanical and technological evolution has brought us machines that can out perform the Pro in certain aspects, but I don't think that means they suck.

    Look at it this way...

Think of an elderly person that you can outperform in every way. That shouldn't take away from their value. You know, someone you have very fond memories of/with. They're still part of American history and deserve respect, and they certainly don't suck. (like the Pro 785)

I think they run about an honest 68-69mph sitting on the seat, box stock.
The aftermarket is where they shine though. That engine platform has almost unlimited potential.

    YoYamma reports that his two new FZS are different;
"...one of the FZR's is average speed; we are getting about 67.5 - 68.8 with half a tank in 95 degree air..."

"...The other one ... we clocked that one at 71.5 in stock form with low fuel..."

There are a number of modifications (some are quite simple) that boost power and speed, so these new generation big engine models can really fly. That has been true for a while now, of course.

The FZR and FZS have the same hull and engine, only difference is the seats. FZR seats 2, FZS seats 3.

    What does a stock 785 run? Besides, aren't we comparing a 4K maching against a 15K machine?

I have been looking into getting a bigger ski myself for a little while, but in the 800 limited class the Pro 785 is still darn fast, but locally they run us with the big stock seadoo 4 strokes and yamaha's, those big skis really handle the rough water a lot better than the little Pro does, If I get stuck behind one of them on the first corner, they really send up a big wall of water that nearly knockes me off of my ski. I am hoping that my new auto drop nozzle set up will give me a little better edge out of the turns. I just dont want to spend 12K on a new ski.

I think the new SeaDoo S3 hulls run around the same, give or take.

The boosted PWC engines have been around for years now. The manufacturers now have better hull designs to utilize the power, with better handling despite the size. The 1800cc Yamaha engine has huge displacement for a boosted engine, and lots of power increase potential since it is lighly boosted in stock form.

The new pwcs are nice, and clearly superior in many ways. However, in my opinion, the new pwcs are not a replacement for the twoseater two strokes. I plan on buying an f12x in the future, but when I do i'll definitely still have my ski or something similar.
