What is the main reason for droping a valve?

Is it the valvetrain and high RPM? or the fact that the valves are hollow and are not strong enough?
    Any thoughts?

Valve float due to over reving. The valve float can lead to valves breaking.

I have a feeling the valves are ok in stock form,BUT, the more you heat them, and the higher spring rates can cause metal fatigue on the valves and you can roll the dice after 30 hrs.
