    Bearing failure on supercharger

Im rebuilding a supercharger for a customer and thought i would show you guys what kind of damage a bearing failure can do to a supercharger.

In this case, the rear bearing lost the cage which caused the impeller to grind into the housing. Its a good thing he shut it off immediately. Continuing to run it longer would have put undue stress on the clutch/gear and the ceramics would have shattered, or worse yet the gear could have broken apart possibly destroying the engine.

The front housing and impeller on this SC is history. Notice in the pics that the front housing on the SC got so hot from the impeller rubbing against it that it actually melted the paint

This unfortunate guy is going to have to pull the front screen on his oil pump to fish out the plastic bearing cage pieces.

60 hrs. Happend 1/4 mile from the launch ramp on my way back. Sucks cause I was going to take off the SC anyways to have the steel washers installed......

Where is the front screen? What is the best way to do this cleaning?

It will be very noticeable. It will be very loud and you will lose power.
