    Sightless PWC riders stranded in the dark

    At first, I thought this story was a joke. But, it's true, here's the link;
    http://www.havasunews.com/articles/2...f568414365.txt
    And the story for the link challenged;
    LAKE HAVASU CITY — The Lake Havasu City Fire Department fireboat and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office marine unit were dispatched to Lake Havasu just after 9 p.m. Thursday, to find a pair of vision impaired personal watercraft riders stranded in the dark.
    According to radio reports, one of the riders was legally blind and the other rider had lost his night vision due to diabetes.

    One of the personal watercraft had capsized and been left in river weeds.

    The PWC riders were in contact with rescue efforts thank to cellular phone communication. They were found by a MCSO marine unit at about 10:18 p.m. in open water of the Lake, near Mesquite Bay.

    Neither victim required medical aid.
    Ok, at what point did they decide this was a bad idea???
    I'm sorry, but one is totally blind, and the other can't see at night.

    I'm all for letting people do pretty much whatever they want, as long as it doesn't infringe on me, or my rights. But, I ride on this lake. If your BLIND, do ya think it's a good idea to be riding on a big public lake, near sunset???
    We take for granted sometimes, that when we make eye contact with another PWC rider, they see us. Apparently I need to re-think that.

    I hope they cite both riders(I dunno what they would cite them for though-is there a law requiring sight to operate a PWC??). And, I hope they make both riders pay for the search and rescue efforts that our tax dollars just paid for, because of their stupidity.

    I'm sure this couple is very nice, and they are really just trying to enjoy life to the fullest; and I commend them for that.
    But, riding a PWC while blind, is really just not a good idea.
    And here's a question for you; Who drove the car with the PWC's????

    They live among us, and breath our air.......only in America.

    And yes, I do see some humor in this, so don't slam me for bringing the "obvious" to the forum.

    I agree with you not a smart idea, but "legally blind" and "totally blind" are 2 different things. A legally blind person may still be able to see with glasses. The legally blind person could have lost their glasses. Still not very smart.

    I'm thinking we'd have seen a nomination for a Darwin Award had the results ended tragically.

    One of the first things I thought about when I read this story was; "Only in Havasu....."
    If you read the article, the reporter said she heard that information over the radio(police scanner). So, she may have "inflated" the story.......
    I've seen 80+ year olds out here(Havasu), riding RXT's, and doing just fine.
    But, I'll be darned if I can find anywhere in the boating laws where it says you have to be able to see!!!

    Well, laws in general tend to take a lot of things for granted. There is nothing in the law that says you must be human to vote.........or, that an alien from outer space even needs a license to operate a motor vehicle.
    Then there are these things called "beer googles"....have you hear of these??? They're fantastic!!!!

    It's like I posted in the "other" pwc forum;
    If I lost my sight tomorrow, or it was significantly impaired...would I stop riding???
    HELL NO.....
    It's a fricking river...ya can't get lost.
    I actually admire their courage. You have to remember, this is Lake Havasu, "watercraft capitol of the world".
    Besides, what do you need to see anyways?? Your on the water...it's not like your going to hit anything..it's a big lake/river. It's not like it's hard
