1995 Polaris SL750 Missing when not at idle

I need some help with my Polaris SL750.

I have recently rebuilt the carburators and reeds so everything is fresh. I already have replaced the fuel pump and fuel lines to the upgraded versions.

The motor will run on the trailer at idle but once I try to accelerate the machine it backfires and shoots flames out the carbs.

I need to give some additional history: the machine was running fine in May and the battery was low so not thinking I hooked up a battery charger to the battery still connected to the machine. I tried to start it and at that time it backfired and I thought that it possible was a possible fuel issue.

I have checked compression on all three cylinders are they are all about 134.
The strator has also tested out fine and I have spark at all three cylinders.

So what is the thoughts? Did I blow something in the electrical box and if so what part?CDI? Can I test the CDI?

    I appreciate all the help.

Backfire out the carb normally means there's an engine timing issue.

There is no test for a CDI.

Did you remove the elec stator at any time?

I'm pretty sure incorrect crank phase will also cause backfires, or maybe a sheared flywheel key.

I have not taken the stator off at anytime.

Any thoughts on what to check or do? The only reason I was thinking that it is the cdi is because that controls the coils (correct?) so if the cdi is bad it would misfire. At this point I am at a loss, any thoughts or items to check would be helpful.

Let me know and I could ship you a top half of an ebox from a 94 sl 750 that was working fine.

I guess a CDI could cause a misfire, but I'm thinking the timing is off.

Remove the fuel tank after draining the gas.

Remove the stator cover and see if the flywheel nut is loose.

Won't cost you a thing except a small tube of silicone for reassembly.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to conduct a crank indexing test either.

Do a search for crank index and follow the directions.

Let us know what you find.

I did replace the CDI and the Regulator and no change to the timing issue. I am going to replace the stator and check the flywheel.

If I have changed all the parts in the E-Box, the only thing left is the stator.

If I am missing something else that could cause the misfire issue but my knowledge is it has to be a stator issue at this point.

Again, appreciate the input from everyone and hopefully the change out will do it.

Have you tried clipping the plug wires back 1/4"

    Did you test the coils?

    Coils were tests and good.

I am going to cut back the wires tonight. What is the issue with the wires that it requires you to cut them back 1/4", not doubting just curious on the issue.

    Thanks again.

    Poor connection.

By cutting the wires back 1/4" you're exposing fresh wire to the plug boot for a better spark.
