    GP1300R VS Ultra 150

Can anyone tell me if the Yamaha is a "better" machine for a heavy rider. I am looking at both with the visual of the ultra in my mind, but I am aware of the fact that the GP is rated for a little more weight (40 more pounds) over the ultra and is a foot longer.

I weight nearly 280, don't want to carry a passenger, but might want to enjoy the craft in open water, possibly choppy. Any feedback would be appreciated!

My first ski ever was a 99 Ultra 150. It was cool back in the day because it was the fastest ski around. The only competition was the XPL and those things were always in the dealer for repair. I loved the ski at first, then i around 30 hours all hell broke loose. Kept breaking motor mounts, jetpump bearings always let go, did a top end, choke cable froze, etc. I since then owned a 04 RXP that was bought from NY modded, 98 XPL modded, 99 GSXL stock, 02 GPR. And hands down the GPR wins all. It handles great, very comfy, stable, and quick. My ski ran almost 74mph with minimal mods. The ski went very nice with 2 people (300ish lbs).

Follow up question........Who rides the VX or FX 1200s? For choppy water in a bay, are those even better than the sportier GP boats? Bigger is not always better, I just wanted to know the diff. before I buy one and make a "mistake" and miss out on something!

Ho 160 would also be an awesome rough water ski. With great milage and storage.
Ultra was a fast ski. However, when the 1300's came out in 03 we took a stock ultra with 40 hrs on it and raced a zero hr 1300. The 1300 smoked the Ultra from everywhere.

apexlocator i weigh slightly less than you and my friend bought an ultra this summer i went to the lake with him and rode it before i bought my gpr, i liked the ski it was fun but by no means would I have one for myself. They are to small and therefore unstable for anyone of any size to try and get back up on out of the water........ go with the gpr and be 100% happy with your purchase........get the ultra and you'll sell it after riding it a few times. Since I bought my GPR my friend with the ultra has purchased him a GPR as well.
