    Locktite 242 vs 243

Do you really need to use Locktite 243 or is the 242 ok. 243 is super hard to find around here.

I asked a loctite sales rep that lives in my neighborhood the same question. He replied, "243 can be applied to a slightly oily surface. The 242 requires that the surfaces to be cleaned and dryed of all oil with a solvent that leaves no residue. Same strenght." He said something like that. I clean and dry bolt holes and bolts with brake cleaner no mater what I used to be safe. I learned the hard way.

242 is fine for wherever 243 is called out. It is basically the same stuff, 243 is slightly more viscous when applied, but performance between the two is basically the same.
