    1996 sltx1050 issues

I have a 1050sltx that runs great for about a hour then goes into some sort of limp mode. Only does it when it gets hot. I'm wondering if my problem lies within the stator from reading other posts. lcd doesn't flash hot. any help would be appreciated

    welcome to the hulk!

is your motor actually getting hot? can you leave your hand on your cylinder for more then 3 seconds or is it sizzling hot?

Didn't actually put my hand on the motor after it acted up. I took out the brass fitting on the exhaust pipe and the screen was clean. It takes it at least 30mins of hard riding to make it do it. Rode my wife around yesterday and it never did it, but i wasn't pushing it hard either. I'm wondering if the front cylinder is heating up after prolonged use and transferring all that extra heat to the stator housing............what do u guys think?

    Welcome

Does this engine still have the original ignition system, or the Update Kit?

If it is still original, that could be the problem.

how do i tell if it has the original equipment? can i tell by pulling the stator cover off or do i need to pull the fly wheel to see what color the coil bindings are? If I dont have the updated ignition system where do i get one? thanks for all the help

The part number on the CDI will tell you. Look for a hand marked number, in addition to the stamped part number.

Parts Sources are listed in my signature links

the hand written part # on the cdi is 4010447, the stamed part number has been marked through but, i think it reads it reads 1010885. There is also another number (Art. Nr. 573210). The coil box part number is 4060153.
    thanks k447 for your help

looks like the updated cdi! make sure all your hoses are clear and that your intake screen inyour pump nozzle is clear..

will do......this thing has me puzzled now. Explain to me how the engine knows when it gets hot. It doesn't have a temp sensor anywhere does it? What ever the culprit is the ignition knows something is wrong, not letting it turn more than around 4k rpms.
