    quick painting question please

quick question on painting plastic hood on yamaha.

if im going to repaint the hood on a yamaha vx., here is my question. i know i have to scuff up the hood with a 600 grit sand paper, but since im not physically painting onto the bare plastic, but rather the old paint, do i still need the plastic adheser (promoter) thanks very much

No...just sand it well with 600 grit.

Make sure to use a good automotive primer/sealer. There are some good ones available at the auto parts store but a good sealer is vital to not have your sanding scratches show through.(do not use just a cheap sandable primer) If you are repairing a large area on the hood, I would use 400 grit prior to the primer to get a good "bite" to the surface, then primer, then the 600 wet sanding to make sure you got all the imperfections handled, then the color and clearcoat. Good luck.
