Ok, so for the guys like myself who have zero experience with plate angle, what is the SAFEST setup on the rideplate- no shims front or back?

This reminds me of the movie Fight Club:

    From IMDB:

"Narrator: A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.
Business woman on plane: Are there a lot of these kinds of accidents?
    Narrator: You wouldn't believe.
Business woman on plane: Which car company do you work for?
    Narrator: A major one."

is this correct, you buy a new sho or fz, do no mods, straight to lake, and at high speeds you may get a bucking...with an experienced rider and zero mods??? is that correct??? that's hard to buy that theory straight up as stated.

    How about this.....

Brand new HO, Riva Grate, pump seal kit, FF exhaust, Cold air intake......no other mods......bucking on glass at 64mph every time.

More mods added since.....bucks even more.

With the stock intake grate design. The odds of getting thrown off are highly probable at some point. First ride, 3rd ride, 100th ride. you never know. There is no warning of when it will do it. Just remember, TUCK & ROLL

You will not find many reports (if any) of a stock SHO doing this. If may happen once for some odd reason, but no where near as often as is seen on a FZ.

Personally, I suspect a lot of the one offs are hitting something such as a log or similar. Done it myself.

There is no single answer. This is because it will differ from ski to ski, rider weight and rider position.

I personally use 3mm on the back at this time on my Jims R&D plate.

    Got it Biz.

Also, GENERALLY speaking, are NO shims safer than using shims?
