Need debug help in SW FL

    Hi all,
I have a 1998 GSX Ltd 951cc. This ski has been rebuilt and most parts
replaced or gone over several times. It had been running great all year.
Put it on trailer about 3 weeks ago, go to use it again and no beeps.

Battery checked under load, all connections inspected and cleaned. Ran as
many wires from DESS post to back of ski, checked all fuses, etc. No beeps.
It will not go into diagnostic mode (5 presses of start button).

I'm assuming it is the MPEM, correct?

If anyone is in SW FL (Naples/Ft Myers) I could use some help $$$$$$.

I'd like to try another MPEM before going out and buying one.

    TG

I would have a new key made first & if that dont work try a different DESS post.

thanks for the input. I have two fairly recent keys. But those DESS posts are known
problems. I'll try to source one locally. I heard about the magnet trick. But the magnet
I have is one of those parts retriever ones, may not be strong enough.
It does seem odd that the ski ran fine when I last used it. Then it is dead as a door nail.
Doesn't seem likely an MPEM would go out just sitting there!

check the hidden fuse inside the electrical box by the igniton coil there is a fuse there hidden. with key or without key you should be able to make the diagnostic by pressin the start button 5 times.

Are you talking about the fuse in the back electrical box that houses the starter solenoid? If so, yep, checked that.

I tried pressing the starting button 5 times to enter diagnostic mode, no go after several attempts.

    keep the ideas coming!!

check continuity from the negative post of the battery to any part of the engine, this should tell you if you have a bad ground.

sounds more like a bad connection or ground than MPEM. if it was running fine and you didnt try and jump start or charge battery ,it is more than likely ,bad post, bad ground, loose plug in front of engine,or one of the posts in the plug corroded???etc. get a fluke, get to looking>Marvin
