    Battery Issue

I went to start my Ski and got silence!
so I said to myself, got to be the Battery. (original Battery 3 1/2 to 4yrs old)
my buddy pulls up his ski and we jump it, my ski starts running, however as soon as we disconnected the jumper cables my ski would stop running!
    Anyone no why?

how about the wires coming from the magneto thingy. Could they have been cut by the belt? They are close by.

new battery will save you more money then you think..it's obviously dead shorted internally, but of course you'll need a voltmeter to confirm this.

jumpstarting your ski when life/limb is not at risk=bad idea

We tested the battery, it's dead!! New battery on the charger as I type. I guess it was going to happen, that stock battery was almost 4 years old.

Leave bats on trickle charge { approx 300ma charger} after every ride. They will be good for about 2 years, then don't trust them. Installed spare battery in cradle where old aux water box was located. This is separated from the ultras electrical system to run GPS's, bilge pumps, and other cool stuff, however it can be a back up for my mates faulty units, saves towing. Vibration and discharge below working voltage is a killer.

Can send pics if interested when I get home, in couple of days. Second battery can be accessed without taking any engine/ intercooler bits out....Oh, DC multimeter is about 20 bucks and worth buying.

I don't think I've heard this before. Why is a jumpstart bad?

    jumpstarting

well you must be living under a rotted log someplace.

we can go over this again and again,,so let's cover it for the 200th time ...

PWC electrical systems are notoriously under powered and have charging systems that are primative by today's standards.

it isn't the jumping that's bad..it's what happens when you pull the cables off.

Suddently the poor ole PWC charging system is lookin at a nearly dead battery and an engine elcetric load and cries mama...typiclly the magic smoke will come right out of your voltage regualtor recitifer..and on quite a few skis that's actually in the emm..which ain't cheap.

Uh and Seadoo has a sticker that says not do jump start..so I guess that is really the qualifier. What do I know about electricity anyway...<chuckle>

between inductive voltage surges. the sometimes oops when a battery is connected in reverse and the piss poor regualtors most sksis run, a charged battery is worth lots more then the cost of the battery, it wouldn't hurt to keep a spare in your truck.

AGM batteries hold a charge a long time and you never know when somebody will need one and will pay you all kidns of money for your spare.
