Motorwise, are XLT1200's and GP1200R's identical?

Picked up a 250 hr '01 GP1200R the other day for $600 with 35 psi comp in rear cylinder (oil line came off). This one is still together so it greatly helps me out on the 01' XLT1200 which I purchased already torn down. Was wondering if the motors are exactly the same on the two skis. I'm thinking maybe exhaust is a bit different due to hull length (and it's silver on the XLT vs black on GPR, maybe making them easily identifiable at the factory because the motor is different?).
    Thanks.

Nope your good to go! All the same for the most post. Longer powervalve cables and different powervalve servo mounting location... early XLL's had the better 66V head.... but other wise its pretty much the same. I have a motor that was in my XLT in my GPR now and it was a straight swap.

+1 to Yellow.... what he said about the cables being different, but it's the same motor all the way until you reach the waterbox.

You get higher compression by milling a 66V head... don't believe me then ask Jim!
