    Brass ring/collar around driveshaft

I noticed this brass looking ring or collar on my driveshaft in front of the impeller. Obviously it's not in the right spot but what is it and where does it go? It's just sitting there hanging.

My 99 always had a little mysterious water drops in the eng compartment after each outing. When I finally got around to riding without the seat, to my horror I saw that above 4800 rpm the top two bolts of the bearing holder turned into pressure washers.

I tried to seal the bolt heads (before I understood what was happening or how that holder works) and it didn't fix it.

The next day I saw that same mysterious collar as you between the impeller and the holder underneath the ski. I had just put my pump back on before this, so it didn't come from the pump end. It came from holder end. I assumed based on the issues I was having at the time - that the holder was coming apart.

To this day I still haven't found evidence of where it came from. Nothing appeared to be missing from the holder I removed, and I cannot find that piece in any parts diagram.

If you figure it out, let us know.

I've looked and looked...compared it to the other ski(which had about 3' of carpet yarn wrapped around the shaft) and found nothing. I've been studying parts diagrams and can't find this little collar either.

I'm debating on cutting it off. It has to rattle and wear. It's like a gold ring on shaft.

oddly enough, my impellers looks new. Not a single knick on either one.

If you are going to run the machine, I'd remove it.

Then down the road if the source of the collar materializes, let us know where it came from and what it ultimately led to.

I assumed it was from my bearing holder. Since I was having issues with the holder leaking above 35mph I replaced the bearing holder. In the process, I removed the pump and driveshaft and removed that ring.

I never did find where it came from.

Hmm, ok. I'm gonna snatch it off. I got to get some snips to get up there though. My side cutters are too big. Lets hope it's soft.

I can try to cut it in half and let you know how hard it was, since mine is just sitting here on the bench.
