    04 Sxr 800

Have a problem, when the ski is out of the water, at about half throttle, it act as though it was hitting the rev limiter. In the water it goes about 5-10 miles per hour, compression is good, and both plugs are firing....

Have not checked the reeds, but I did unplug the overheat sensor, and same indication with it unplugged.

Problem still exist. I checked the carbs all good, did notice when I had the flame arrestor off, and the ski running I did notice it was back-firing. So my thinking is them must be a timing issue. I pulled the head to check the crank to ensure it wasn't twisted. Looks good when I rotate it. Next thing was going to pull the flywheel to ensure the key wasn't sheared.

Any other suggestion. Could the CDI be bad..any way of checking it.

sounds like you are on the right track.

flywheel key is small, and i wouldn't be supprised if that was it.

no real test for the CDi, short of replacement.

Looking for a CDI (part #2119-3764) for an 04 SXR. Not sure if its the problem with the ski, so I don't want to spent a whole lot for it. Email:

really sounds like the temp sensor. is there another one in the pipe too? easiest thing to blow out the cooling lines and make sure it is cooling properly first before you go tearin into it any further. if you can put it in the water on the trailer, remove the hood and run it on the trailer. sprinkle water on the head and pipe and if it sizzles off you found the problem. fyi reeds will also make the back fire but usually will be hard starting too. however the woodruff key (when sheared) on the flywheel will also have the same symptoms. good luck.

Its going into safe mode. I had the same prob. I actually had a broken pin on the connector on the ingnition. You will need to take your electrics box apart and check all the connector's. Give them a hit with some spray grease. Also check for broken wires and just for fun drain the fuel tank see how much water build up you have in it. Hope this helps..
