    Wind in Ears

Is there someway you can keep the wind out of your ears? I ride at full throttle for long stretches and the noise gets painful, especially when you are going against the wind. 68 Mph plus 10-20 for the wind is intense. Thanks for the ideas.

Wear a helmet if out jumping... Win win.

Now that I think about it, I have had ringing/deafness after riding...

Might be a good idea this summer on the long trips

I have a condition called Tinnitus, which is a constant faint ringing in the ears. It can be caused by constant exposure to loud noise or repeated exposure to a loud bang close to the ears. Motorcycle riders and hunters often suffer from this condition. It can also be associated with listening to loud music (bars, concerts, stereo equipment, iPod, etc.). THe condition is aggravated by loud noise so I take extra special care now to avoid it.

I initially tried a paid of foam ear plugs but found that they were not easy to insert and take out quickly - necessary when pulling a skier and starting and stopping. I had a pair of custom moulded earplugs made and they work really well, but they don't fit as tightly as foam plugs and don't block out as much noise. I've recently switched back to foam for long rides.

You can buy several different types; they are rated in -db (the decibel reduction). The best I've found is a -30db. They work great for Sea Doo-ing and rock concerts. They tend to be a closed cell foam type so they are a bit more difficult to place in the ear, but once they are in, they block almost 100% of the wind noise, yet you can hear your passenger talking close to your ear. Carry extras in a plastic baggie in case they get wet.
