hey guys my 1200 gpr wont go above 55 mph (on MFD) trim works and everything seems to be fine. running 40:1 premix any ideas where to start im thinking of adjusting the high speed needle.

any mods, you need a tiny tach if not to start.. i also wouldent adjust thie high end needles unless your plugs say you are rich or lean .. http://www.dansmc.com/spark_plugs/sp...s_catalog.html

pull your exhaust apart and see if the cat con came apart. You need to replace it with a d-plate even if it's still together. Go buy a cheap compression tester, sears has them. Check your compression.

I would defiinitely start with a tiny tach. Knowing what rpm you're turning at top speed can clue you in as to whether this is an engine problem or pump problem. Regardless, I would pull apart the exhaust and replace the cat with a D-plate. You shouldn't run anything but yamaha 2W with the stock cat, additives in synthetics can ruin the cat. I would not be surprised if your cat was broken apart and partially clogging the exhaust. Let us know what you find.

I had a similar issue with my '00 GPR only reaching 57 mph on the stock display. Took the cat out and it was like USCME mentioned, in pieces. I replaced that with a D plate (among other things not related to the speed of the ski) and improved to 66. ymmv
