I know drag boat racers string a line across the water, hold onto it with the canopy open, and let go just before green.

    Just a thought.

For hockey training I have a weight vest that has a remote control "breakaway" feature on it. The vest has a rubber three point harness on it and you run or skate with it on, hit the remote control button and it lets go. Is this what you need......?

How about a gate "similar" to motocross, but with the gate opening outwards, instead of toward the rider?

It could be aluminum, portable, and all on a single mechanical control. If you jump the gun, you'll either get caught in the gate, or sky upwards losing the jump.

Imagine this gate setup, but turned away from the boat.

What about those quick release things they use on mythbusters all the time to drop stuff?
