R&D ride plate last question I swear for the FZS

I installed my R&D ride plate and I used the stock shims as everybody calls it. This stock shim runs length wise, so I have the silver shim used in the front and back on both sides. I also used 1 R&D ride plate supplied shim in the back on both sides and it bounced like a bull ride....I gained 2.5 mph, but it was horrible. Then I installed a second shim on both sides in the back and I went out today. In PERFECTLY smooth water...not even a ripple, it still had a decent bounce to it but I still gained about 2.5 mph over stock. I called R&D customer service and they said that for smooth water, you don't use any of the R&D shims, just the stock silver plates that cover the front and back. Does this sound right? The only way I haven't tried is without the R&D supplied shims which I guess I will do now. From what I have seen from posts, it seemed as if the ski would be more stable if you put 2 shims in the back. Any thoughts? I only go to the lake where there is an occasional white cap and that's it, other than jumping boat wakes....never in the ocean.

Two problems. The instructions state in capital letters to never put any r&d shims in the front....only the back. Also, the stock shims go on the sides each shim mounts one end on the front and the other end on the back. I would have to cut the metal shim/bracket in order to just use stock shims in the front or the back.

The shims as everyone refers to are actually supports that Yamaha and R&D highly recommend to stay installed.

Hey Chuck, it's their ride plate buddy, they should know!
Why not take them at their word and try it?
If it doesn't work, then move to plan B.

Yes sir, working on it tonight. Other people posted that more shims make it more stable and this was the opposite. I was just curious. The gain is awesome for the money. $225 for 2.5 mph.

On my FZR I have the R&D plate with one shim on each side in the rear....ski is perfect.....the stock metal spacers that are reccomended to be left in place are for strength...double check that the stock spacer plates are flat against the hull....you did change the intake grate ? correct? if not ,that is part of your trouble.

I still have some "bounce" with 2 shims but definitely more bounce with no R&D shims (with stock shims). No shims on smooth water equals less bounce....????....that makes no sense.
My ski is fastest with no shims but there is definitely more bounce.

IMO r&d tells you that you must run the oem spacers because if you dont run the oem spacers or the shims they send you the plate bottoms out on the pump & nozzle.. theres plenty of support on that plate for the hull, i run my R&D plate with no spacers at all and it is faster that way, and i did have to do some grinding on the pump & nozzle for it not to hit the plate.
