    Removing oil tank

A while back I was riding my wife's ski ('94 SL650), doing 360's and 180's and submarining it up over the hood and I ended up with a LOT of water in the hull. (Go figure!) I had thought that the water separator (the great big black canister) would have taken care of the water that came in through the air intakes in the hood, but apparently there is either a flaw in its design, or I had another major leak somewhere. Since then I have checked the seat seal and the hood seal which are both good but have confirmed what I thought back then...there is a big hole where the oil tank filler used to be that is outside the hood seal, open to water when the hood goes under. What is the best way to plug off this hole? I thought about using fiberglass mat and epoxy, or maybe just a big rubber plug. What has everyone else done? Is this the cause of my water getting in or is there actually a problem with the water separator setup on these?

I used the plugs from an old imperial kitchen sink I have along with some sealent. As I recall the oil tank filler hole is about two inches or so. Sure, some might call it cheesy but it covered the holes on both my skis nicely.

Look at the "Flexible Plastic Plugs" about 3/4 down this page.

This is kinda what I was thinking of using to plug the hole. I was just wondering if anyone else had done the same and if there were any problems with them popping out or leaking again. I don't mind filling the hole with fiberglass mat and epoxy since I already have to repaint the hull, but if these work it will save me a lot of time. I just can't believe I didn't notice this big hole that can allow water into the hull before, I just assumed it was inside the hood seal area.
