    Engine Paint question?

I see on the 1200 motors the cylinders and case are painted or coated black. I also see that on my 1300 engine it is silver and seems to be some kind of paint or coating. The new head looks to be painted or coated, but with what? does anyone know if this is paint? I don`t believe it to be a natural finish uncoated.

What paint can be applied to the reconditioned cylinders?
can it be automotive engine paint?

and does painting the exterior of the cylinders affect anything thermal?

Thanks Joe, I read where he likes to use a 2 part epoxy... I`m just interested in a decent rattle can paint...
Martin Senoir was a very good brand for automotive engine paint as well as Plastikote...

Andy when I had done my 800 black I went to pepboys and used engine block paint. I think they have silver as well. Held up really well.

Hi Scott, so far I`m going to see if the not so close auto parts place has martin senour, Duplicolor, or rustoleum engine enamel...
I think I`m going to go with a "color" instead of the black or silver...

back in the engine building days Martin Senour was very good. as is Duplicolor. VHT is ok...
never had a problem with peeling even when going on bare metals...
I`ll have to look into a primer if necc when checking out the paint...
    Thanks...

Don't know if you can get it in the States, but I always use SIMONIZ engine laquer. very similar in colour to the newer Yam silver, but a bit more glossy, and it's very durable-spilt oil, petrol etc does not cause a problem.
