I find my ski battery only lasts two years. It's not just the battery is it?

By the way, if my battery isn't fully charged, or I was cranking it for a few extra seconds (with the old carbs/choke) my battery light would flash. It went out after a couple of minutes riding.

Ok, try to get your hands on a manual if you can.

In my manual it talks about checking a few things. Here is an extract.

    Charging Coil Testing
•Disconnect the 2-pin charging coil leads connector (Yellow)
[A]. <this is toward to front of the engine, tucked up near the spark plug of number 1 cylinder)
•With the hand tester, check the charging coil output (in circuit) according to the following table with the engine running at approximately 3,000 rpm.

    WARNING
To avoid electrical shock, do not perform this test
with the watercraft in the water.

    CAUTION
Do not run the engine over 15 seconds without cooling
    water.

    Charging Coil Output Test
    Connections
    Meter Setting....Meter (+) to Meter (–) to...Standard Value
    250 V AC .........Yellow lead Yellow lead ......32 ∼ 48 V

If the charging coil output voltage is correct, check the
regulator according to the regulator test procedure.

If the charging coil output voltage is low, check the charging
coil resistance with the hand tester according to the
    following table.

    Charging Coil Resistance Test
    Connections
    Meter Setting.....Meter (+) to Meter (–) to...Standard Value
    R × 1 Ω.............Yellow lead Yellow lead .....0.64 ∼ 0.96 Ω

If the coil has normal resistance, but the voltage check
shows the charging system to be defective, then the
permanent magnets in the flywheel have probably weakened,
    necessitation flywheel replacement.

Let me know how this goes.
