Air filters... What are they good for?
This is more for guys who modified their intakes,
But, Air filters, who DOESN'T run them? Has anyone had problems by not running one?
The only reason I can see for running one is to stop your engine taking a big gulp of water...
Its interesting the iS doesn't have any air filter on it, although the intercooler does filter SOME of the air from bigger particles...
Since when did BRP not use air filters?
Any discussion appreciated!
I'm thinking of running a 4x4 snorkel insert type like this:

When racing you have to run a flame arrestor that is rated for marine use but even then we modify them by removing the cotton from inbetween tha gauze so you still dont have a air filter but it has the correct number on there so that it complys with IJSBA.
I have been running for a number of hours with no filter on a 4 inch intake on my fun ski and have seen zero issues so far, I do run a fine stainless mesh over the end to prevent large particles but no proper air filter.

I run my kanaflex 4 ",without the airfilter.
More then 40 hrs ,without any problems.
Really don't need one inside the hull, that's why the stock Seadoo's don't have one.

i agree no dust or dirt the only thing that a air filter would do is keep a bolt out..that you droped into the hull...and a piece of screen would do the same thing..i am over 140 hours no filter or screen ..stock pistons and rings...

I am not saying you need an air filter, but the stock system isn't equivalent to no air filter. The actual air intake is upside down compared to a 4". Also, the stock is so restrictive you could probably but a bolt in it and it would never make it into the supercharger. I run the Fizzle and use the filter. I don't race though so that gain isn't important to me. I would be pissed if I needed a rebuild because I ingested something that I could have prevented with a filter. Just my 2 cents. I know many run no filter without issue.

I run 4" PVC piping all the way up to the front hood in my 2003 GTX with a 90 degree bend pointing downwards.
I'll put photos up tomorrow for anyone that's interested.

I am running a 4" rear with nothing at all. I have had no problems thus far but then again I don't play in the waves this way.

I run the K&N on my RXPX kanaflex that Jerry sells for a Kawasaki. I know the stock box has no filter, but I just cant bring myself to not having a filter there. And I also said I did not want to run a bigger sc, and I also did not want to run a Riva ecu, and I also said I didnt want................
