Thread: Hull Repair?

    Hull Repair?

the ski def hit something, prolly why I sucked up the rocks. There are about 16 good sized scratches from bow to stern, even scraped up the grate , the black color is gone at these scratches, I`m guessing the gelcoat isn`t all that thick, can the bottom be painted to protect what`s below the gel coat, or don`t worry about it and ride?

and inside the pump tunnel is wanged/gouged from the rocks, should this be smoothed out any?...Thanks...PR...

Thats rough. I believe you can sand that part down and re-gel coat it. As far as the pump tunnel, when I sucked up a rock I sanded that material (does anyone know what its made of). Took all of the parts that were pushed up from the gouges.

Your referring to this area? Somewhere I have a pic after its sanded.

Andy, since you don't keep your ski in the water 24/7 the scratches won't hurt anything. But if you want to make the bottom look better, the black appliance epoxy spray paint works well...if the area is sanded and completely clean. I's available at Home Depot.

PR i know the bottom of my hull looks similair. Has a few wear scratches in the bottom from some beaching and what not. Mine hasn't had any great affect. Though i think i'll have to try the appliance epoxy spray paint

wet sand with 320/400 grit and buff it at 1500 rpm with 3M Heavy Duty Marine rubbing compound, Wal Mart has it in the sporting goods with boat stuff. lot a work but you can improve the way it looks a lot.
