Question No spark after supply electronic box with battery inversion polarity

    Hi,
After an very stupid error, inversion polarity battery (booster in this case) to supply electronic box (without start engine), now when i try to start engine, there is no spark on 2 plug.
I suppose CDI unit is KO now.
Have you any other idea ?

    Welcome to the Hulk

What model and year is your machine?

    Which engine?

    Part number on the CDI?

    Thanks for your welcome !
My machine is a Hurricane 1997, CDI unit is the famous 4060148 !!!!

Now, just piston changed in P2 Wiseco, so my name is "cane718".

I will start with a few important points.

    - Never boost a Polaris PWC with an external power pack, charger or car/truck, especially if the PWC battery is weak. There is a real risk of toasting the PWC electronics. If the PWC battery is weak either replace it or charge it, don't boost it.

    - All Polaris PWC require a strong battery. On the red domestic engines the battery must be able to supply over 10.6 volts while cranking the engine or you will not have spark.

    - Sometimes even a 'new' battery does not put out enough voltage while cranking. Measure the voltage using a multi-meter at the battery posts. Do not rely on the MFD voltage display, it may not be accurate.

    - Best battery type for PWC is factory sealed AGM, such as Deka ETX16LM or Odyssey PC625. No liquid acid to leak out, long battery life, vibration resistant, and strong starting power.

    - If battery voltage while cranking is good, next check voltage right at the Red/Purple wire that feeds into the CDI. It also must be over 10.6 volts while cranking.

    - Sometimes we all forget, so make sure the lanyard is in place on the handlebar

    - Disconnect the CDI Yellow/Black wire at the terminal board. That is the engine kill wire from the lanyard. See if you now have spark. If yes, check the switch and wiring.

    - If your CDI really has failed, you are not alone. The original ignitions were found to be unreliable. Polaris sells an Ignition System Upgrade Kit for the 1996-1999 engines, which is not only much more reliable, it is also less expensive that replacing the original parts.

You can find part numbers and more info in my signature links.

    Steve,

Don't be a stranger just because you got it fixed
