'95 XP blowing oil?
My '95 XP is blowing oil all around the oil reservoir??? Checked the hoses and even the vent check valve and are fine. One guy said it is probably the internal crank seals gone bad (and I guess pressurizing the tank) and would be just as cheap and easy to replace the whole engine. Any thoughts - simpler???
Runs great other than a boatload of oil all over the place when you shut down. Thought maybe the oiler went bad, because the plugs are fouling bad also and very oily. Just replaced the front crank seal (without having to break down engine) because the starter went bad and was full of oil.

Your rotary valve seals on the crankshaft are shot. The crank has to be disassembled (rebuilt) to replace them.

What's the best and most economical way to fix? Hire someone to break down and rebuild crank, or buy a rebuilt engine and put in myself? Any idea on cost?

If you want an economical rebuild, you can buy a complete rebulit kit (top end, gaskets, pistons and rings including a re-man crank for 480 ish) from this place in Fort Lauderdale..http://www.playtimepowersports.com/ He does alot of business through e-bay
He uses WSM stuff but its done right, I think its just him and his wife, nice people to deal with. I've bought a few cranks for some of the beater boats i've had. I've got one in my SP, so far no problems. After that you'll just need to find a shop to punch to the jugs, I usually pay $35 a hole around here.
You can buy rebuilt cranks from quite a few places and just replace the crank, but IMO while its torn apart... might as well do it right and rebuilt the whole thing.
IMO I would be a little weary of buying complete reman motors...from any of them.
