    Neoprene Seal Question?

Can a neoprene seal be installed on an older (9 140mm pump that doesn't use one? I have a 98 GTI that only has the Right Stuff sealing the pump to the shoe. Instead of using sealant can I install a neoprene seal? Thanks

If it has a Pump shoe you can install a Neo-ring sans the Black Goop----

It sits flush up against the inner ledge of the Pump Shoe that the Jet Pump butts up against.
Be sure you scrape/wire brush all the Black Goop off that interface area or you'll have aeration problems.

One of those Course Wire Brush (welders wire brush) drill fittings in an electric drill makes quick work out of this job.

My buddys 96 gtx just uses the rubber ring that comes with the wearring? On my 96xp you have to use a neoprene seal. His boat still cavitates even with the neoprene seal added to the plastic pump???? Me thinks he bought the wrong pitch prop from SBT for his gtx....

There is no rubber ring that comes on a 96 or 97 GTX, incld with the wear ring or not. You can use a newer flat seal from any late model 140mm pump. Sounds like he is using the wrong part causing the cavitation.

Has anyone ever used standard weatherstripping to create a seal? Something like you might find at Lowe's or Home Depot? Maybe just buy a long length of 1/2" weatherstripping and form it into a circle. My dealer charges about $6 for the neoprene seal!
