    Rocker Arm Lifter Testing

    Hello Everyone,

I am trying to figure out if my hydraulic valve lifters are good or not.

Manual states "Press the lifter with your thumb. If the hydraulic lifter can be fully pressed in, replace the rocker arm. Lifter must turn freely in the rocker arm"

So the way I understand that is that there should be some inward movement of the lifter..but I should not be able to press it in all the way. If I can then its bad...if it does not go in at all no movement inward..stuck it is also bad..

Look for some advise from more experienced people.

    Thanks.

Hi,as the shop manual says,it must turn freely in the assy.
If the lifter is fully pressed, then replace it(lifter cannot hold oil pressure in it).
If it dont, but turns freely then its ok.
    Hope this helps,

    Hello Mitsakosgt,

I gues the key concern that I have with checking these are the three lifters that I have that do not move inward into the rocker arm. They spin but no inward movement like the others. I am guessing that they are bad and need to be replaced.

On the others I can not press them all the way in but I do have some movement.

I just want to be sure before I start buying parts.

The way I read it is there can be some movement but not fully pressed.
