    Gas in oil

I noticed I have a GIO issue with my SHO. In reading many searches and past posts I see that most had the R&D cooling. I have stock cooling with the exception of the thermostat has been removed. Will replacing the thermostat fix this ? I do have a R2 reflash on it's way and will be using an aftermarket Intercooler , will any of this help with the GIO issue?

if you are running an aftermarket ecu
you realy need to upgrade the engine cooling or you will have overheat problems

This part is really only necessary when using the R&D cooling kit.

The OP plans to run a R2, & IMO there's not enough timing in that tune to make that much difference in engine temps with smaller boost wheels. I've run the R2 & C1 with the stock cooling for nearly 30 hrs in 90* water/95* air & have never had an overheat issue.

have you downloaded a log of your temps after some high speed runs
when i first tested a motec with a stock map and the ski in as she came out of the crate condition
i could see my temps were dangerously high after checking the logs
so i didn't ride it again till i did some cooling mods
i still have the thermostat in and my temps are all good now

There's no way to log block temps with a reflash. I had installed the R&D cooling kit before the reflash & got GIO, then after installing the R2:
both additional cooling lines on & Tstat removed = GIO
additional oil cooler line turned off = GIO
both additional lines turned off = GIO
both lines off & reinstalled Tstat = No more GIO

I can't comment on the timing advance in the Motec maps because I've never used one, but I'm pretty sure the Riva Vipec maps add a lot more timing than the R2. A friend of mine was running the R2 with an ET low boost wheel making 15+psi @ 8600 & never had an overheat issue, but after going to a Vipec his ski would go into limp mode due to overheating. IMO the timing in the R2 is pretty rec rider friendly & really doesn't require a cooling upgrade unless running a big boost wheel.

Don't get me wrong, I think upgrading the stock cooling is definately a necessity for some setups, but it's been pretty well documented that running R2's with a low boost wheel & an agressive cooling upgrade like R&D's kit has caused GIO.
