R & D ride plate speedo holes off

Just installed a never-used, second hand Riva (though manufactured by R & D, I assume) plate on my '01 GP1200R. They sure did a poor job of aligning the four holes for the speed sensor. Cracked the plastic body and ripped out the threaded insert trying to force the screws in. Was thinking of welding two holes closed and re-drilling. Anyone run into this before and have another solution?
    Thanks.

Thanks Rich, but I'm selling the ski. Don't think the gearhead teenager that i foresee buying it will want it without the "dream-ometer".
