Thread: BOV Install

Ok guys a little help/advice needed. I am trying to install this damn BOV on an aftermarket intercooler. I just broke my 4th pair of snap ring pliers in 2 days!! I am tired of going back to Sears, Autozone, OReilly and so on returning these things. Is there a trick to this? Is there a certain kind of snap ring plier I should be looking for? The BOV collar on my nice pretty intercooler is getting all nicked up.

I feel your pain. Here's a post from some months back that explains what I did to finally get the BOV installed. Basically used the 45į tips from the Lisle pliers installed in my standard SR pliers + the tubing trick.

Looks like the tips are integral on those. You managed to get it installed w/ the straight tips?

Yes, they are thick enough that they did not bend under pressure and the clip did not slip off like the others. I'm glad that is over; I must have bought, broke and returned 6 different sets of pliers many costing more than twice what this cost. I won't return these in case I need them again.

A friend of mine gave me a tip on dealing with that snap ring. He went & bought a cheapo long handle needle nose pliers with an angled jaw, then ground down the tips until they were small enough to get into the eyelets. The long reach handle gives you a lot more leverage & the jaws don't flex & slip out like snap ring plier attachments.
