Thumbs up PPG level one kit for the 951 carb skis

    Hi all,

What kind of gains did you see when you put the level one kit on your ski? I'm thinking about doing it and want to see what your thoughts are.

    Thanks,
    Steve

I saw about 4 mph and improved holeshot. They mill your head for higher compression, rejet your carbs and add fly filters. It is a very good mod for your 951. I think they also repitch your prop.

I had that kit on my 98 GTXL and with a wedge It would jump out of the water & clear the pump from a dead stop. Not sure what my top end was but it was worth it, nice bang for the buck. I think Glenn will include 1 prop bend if needed.

For what it's worth this is not a hard kit to copy. You could send them your head to be cut & do the rejet & prok's yourself if you are so inclined.

When you say they will bend a prop? I assume that's the stock one, do they pitch it to 15/20? Anyone know?

They bend it lower to give it a better holeshot, at the sacrifice of some top end. Forget trying to get a number...the bend varies according to application.

A MUST DOO with the 98XPL is to block off the front two air holes (removed with 2000 & later models). This will keep 85% of the water out of the hull and not starve the motor of air.

I have a ppg mod'd 951 stock carb set I'll sell for $250 that I bought from Joe Mcglaughlin(had them on a rxx twin pipe setup). I never put it on my RX. Also check your 98xpl venturi nozzle. I have one from the 98GSXL that's 87mm. Brand New(I bought it but I already had the same size one on my ski from previous owner who had a Rossier setup). If you decide you want to run the 15/20 (which is the stock recommended replacement prop for the 951 motor) Some say they put too much load on the motor. Some Sea-Doo models use the 84mm venturi nozzle, the 87mm will ease the load a little and raise your rpm's to where the 15/20 likes to operate(I believe in the 6900-6950 range. Water4fire might recall the 15/20 load issues and what. I can dig up some posts from a couple years ago on another site and email them to you.
