    Question FZR Engine cover removal

Thinking about installing the R&D BOV kit and TBM fuel cell and wanted to make more room under the seat. I'm wondering if there is any detriment to permeantly removing the cosmetic engine cover. Doesn't seem to serve any obvious purpose other than taking up space but I wanted to make sure.

Pull it and remove the four Z brackets also. You'll find they're prone to breakage once the cover's off. I attached two nylon "d" wire holders on the left side of my engine with the bracket screws. Gave me a spot to slip a zip ties through to secure the cooling & egr hoses.

You have any pictures of your holders so I'll know what to pickup at the hardware store?

I still have mine. I took it off to clean under it. Thats the only way to get CRC in there.

I keep mine on to keep water off of my head and coils. But i'm an ocean rider and also concerned about salt getting on there and so far it been doing a pretty good job of doing that.

Guess I'm an odd ball too.

I always put mine on when I'm riding offshore. It does a good job of keeping the engine, wiring harness & connectors from getting crusted with salt, but I do remove it after I ride to rinse underneath & respray everything with silicone. I usually leave it off freshwater rides though.
