HOW TO: Repair your faded black plastics like rear grab bar

Here is a how to repair your faded black plastics such as a grab handle.

I bought my ski and the rear grab handle was no longer a nice black. It was white and splotchy looking. Just using thick silicone (Black Magic Tire Wet) helped a little (before pics was after using just the silicone) but didn't work. My friend Brett at JetTrendz stated to try a heat gun. So I decided to give it a shot.

I used a Wagner heat gun on the low setting and started working an area. Sure enough it started to turn black again. However some of the areas would turn white again. I found that if the area was coated with a silicone like Black Magic Tire Wet it would remain black. I continued the process and made the white faded splotch grab bar look new again!!

    In summary:
    1. Liberally wipe the area with a thick coat of Black Magic Tire Wet. Other silicones will probably work too.
    2. Use a heat gun on a low setting and slowly work an area.
    3. You will start to see it turning black again.
    4. Continue working the entire piece. Take your time and work it slow.
    5. Coat the entire area with a very heavy coat of the Tire Wet and let it sit over night. This step may not be needed but I did it anyway.
Below are the before and after pictures of my GPR grab bar. In one of the pics you can see the bottom left corner where I tested the process.

I use a benzomatic on all my quad/dirtbike plastics. Works very good.

I would probably set it on fire using the torch. Well, looks like everyone already knew about the secret on this besides me.
Thanks. I am enjoying the hell out of it. Can't wait till tomorrow to go ride for the fist time.
