Hi bedbug and WELCOME to the Green Hulk forums!!!!
What I would do with your SL780 is upgrade it to the SLX780 and go from there.

i have aftermarket air filters here, ( ocean pro, and R&D) that will fit your ski.

look for the jet pump extension, to set your pump back further.

SLX CDi, ( higher rev limit).

some people like to switch to the earlier 650 exh pipe. it runs drier than the 750, and 780 pipe and will let you get higher RPM's. ( i have one here for sale).

i also have boysen dual stage performance reeds, coplete on reed blocks, with stuffers that will fit your motor.

get a good scat prop. ( just my opinion).

depending on where / how you ride, you may benifit from an aftermarket scoop grate, and or ride plate.

good luck with your ski. there is a ton of info here on the boards. these guys really know, and take there polaris machines seriously.

    welcome to the hulk.

I found that the 96 780 slx has more timming and a different cdi curve than sl. Seems like the sl had two different cdi and timming settings. It depends on the engine numbers. The ec780pwe02 engine has more timming and a better curve than ec780pwe03 and 05. I think its 4 degrees different. I have 2 96 sl780 and the 02 engine sounds better and runs better and feels stronger than the 04 engine!

You can add to your existing pump. You will need a 4" spacer/ wear ring. A longer driveshaft, cooling tube, pump bolts, steering cable, and ride plate. You will also need a pump wedge, 4 or 6 degree depending on what you want to achieve. You can make a longer steering cable extension and longer pump bolts out of SS threaded rods from local harware stores. Not very difficult to do. It sounds like alot of stuff, but it's really not. Or you can buy a complete pump sometimes from people parting out their old skis. Good luck though, everyone is looking for these parts.
